Art plays
a big role in the Florida Keys lifestyle. We have an incredible variety of
local artists, each bringing their own unique and creative vision to add to the
vibrancy of life in the Keys. To
help support the future of arts in the Keys, the Florida Keys Council of the
Arts is showcasing a 24-foot-long mosaic mural featuring over 400 local artists. The Connections Project mural was organized
to bring our communities and art initiatives directly together. The mural has
been on display since the beginning of February and will travel to several
locations through May 9th.
You can
view this amazing work of art done in a variety of styles and mediums, at Giorgione Fine Art in Marathon until
March 17th. Then the mural is off to Big Pine Artists in Paradise
Gallery until April 6th, then at Royal Furniture in Key West until April 20th and Gato Building in Key West from April 21st
through May 9th. Each venue will hold a reception party to welcome
the mosaic mural. Art lovers can support the project and future artistic
endeavors by purchasing one of the 6-inch squares from the mosaic for a $35 donation. A series of three can be
purchased for a $100 donation. Once
the show has ended, those who have donated to the fundraiser will receive one
or three randomly selected sections of the mural to keep with their own art
collection.
2016 marks
the fourth year of this mural
project, and each year gets better. Each artist is given a 6-inch by 6-inch square canvas to create their own piece of the
mosaic in any style or theme of their
choosing, using whatever medium they
want. With all the unique visionaries
we have in the Keys, the Connections Mural Project showcases the beauty and
uniqueness that is the Florida Keys. If you want a piece of the mural, you can
make your donation at any one of the receptions for the project, or go to the FloridaKeys Council of the Arts website directly. You can also get a sneak
peek at what the mural looks like. The art is varied and bright just like the
Florida Keys.
