Spring is in the air, and April right around the
corner. That can only mean one thing in the Florida Keys, it is time for Island Fest.
This marks the 25th year
of the Islamorada Festival bringing families, music, and art together. Island
Fest is set for April 9th-10th
and will be held at Founders Park at mile marker 87. This free family friendly
event is an annual favorite for many, and it is easy to see why.
With over 100
artists displaying their creative inspirations, there is something for
everyone at the arts and crafts show, which runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday. You will find a huge
variety of fine arts and crafts including jewelry, paintings, sculptures, and
more waiting for art lovers to enjoy. Once again, there will also be the All-American Road Vintage Cruisers Car Show
showcasing antique vehicles as well as motorcycles, rat rods, and trucks. Auto
lovers are in for a great treat during Island Fest.
No festival would be complete without live music. Throughout the weekend
festival goers can enjoy a variety of musical performances including the Miami
group, Pit Bull Blues, and
Islamorada’s own Dave Feder with his
unique hillbilly/flamenco sound. Another must at any festival is food, and
Island Fest has it. On Sunday you can check out the best in the area’s food at
the Taste of Islamorada, a culinary
competition amongst local chefs and restaurants.
For another fun competition during Island Fest be
sure to check out the second annual “What
Floats Your Boat?” race featuring homemade boating crafts on Saturday.
Check out the IslamoradaChamber site, there may even be room for you to join in the fun
of this wacky race. Island Fest wouldn’t be the same without plenty of fun
things for the kids to enjoy as well. As a family friendly festival, you can’t
get much better than this one. There will be a life-sized dolphin at the
park that kids are invited to help paint,
as well as hula hoop contests and sand castle building. There will also
be a fun competition where teams race to create the word “SUNSET” with colored
sand on the beach.
Island Fest is free to attend with on-site parking
for $5.00. Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended to help make the most out
of these two days full of family fun. If you’re ready to sell or buy a home in the Key West
