International Sand Art Competition Comes to Key West


If you find yourself in the Florida Keys this coming Thanksgiving weekend, or already live in this incredible place, there is a special event you won’t want to miss. From Wednesday November 25th through Sunday November 29th Casa Marina resort in Key West plays host to the International Sand Art Competition. This is your chance to see the one of a kind, amazing sand sculptures which will be created over the course of the competition. Six world renowned sand sculpture artists will be gathering to seek honors and top prizes for their creations. You can watch them in action from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day and until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday when the judging will commence. But there is more to the art competition than the sculptures; every day has some new in store to enjoy.
Wednesday gets the International Sand Art Competition rolling with the start of the artist’s creative process. On Thursday, spend part of your Thanksgiving on the beach where the sand art will be lit up especially at night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday will be your chance for another Thanksgiving meal with turkey and all the trimmings at the annual Casa Marina Thanksgiving Brunch. On Friday, you can get your own chance to get into the sand and dig for special treasure in the Mel Fisher Treasure Dig. A replica of one of Mel’s authentic coins pulled from a treasure find will be hidden in a sand sculpture. The lucky winner will get the real deal to take home. Saturday is your time to vote before the judges weigh in at the People’s Choice award, which will be handed out as part of the main award ceremony later that day. This is also when you can get your beach party swinging at the Beach Bash. Dance, eat and celebrate Sand Art. You can get in one more viewing of the sand sculptures on Sunday before they are gone forever.
