If
there is one thing that the Florida Keys are known for, it’s our festivals. One
of the best things about life in the Keys is how we love to celebrate life and
enjoy it to the fullest. Not to be outdone by other holidays, this year’s
Labor Day weekend is going to be a lot of fun. For the 6th year
running, Key West will be home to Brewfest, the biggest and most
entertaining beer festival in the area. You can spend a six pack of days
celebrating this year, from September 2nd- 7th,
and you will have plenty to choose from for drink, food and fun. The festival
is being put on by The Southernmost Hotel Collection and the Key West
Sunrise Rotary of the Conch Republic to raise funds for the various
charitable efforts pursed by the rotary. So not only can you enjoy some great
brew for the summer’s last official holiday, you can also help support some
great causes.
Brewfest is all about beer; there will be
over 150 beers for you to taste over the long weekend celebration. In
addition to this, you can expect beer brunches and dinners, happy hour parties,
late night parties, and pool parties.
These will take place at various locations, from bars to
restaurants to hotels. Many of these Brewfest events will be hosted by local
breweries. Fun runs are a common element at festivals, and Brewfest is no
exception-the Waterfront Brewery’s Beer Run will be on Thursday
September 3rd. Drink beer, run, and drink some more! Whether you
run, walk, or crawl, this is sure to be a highlight of the celebration. The Signature
Tasting Festival will be held on Saturday September 5th
on South Beach, followed by a dancing march down Duval Street to the Green
Parrot, where everyone is invited to join in the extravaganza. Space is limited
for many of the goings on throughout the week, so be sure to reserve your space
or get tickets for the tasting portion of the festival as soon as possible.
Some venues are already booked.
While
everyone who attends this year’s Brewfest will no doubt have an incredible
time, there are some key things to know before you go. This is an adult only
event; no one under 21 is allowed. No pets are allowed either, so please be
sure to leave Spot the dog at home. You can get a VIP pass or a General
Admission pass for the Signature Tasting Festival. With the VIP pass, you
can get in as early as 3:00, and will get a t-shirt and early appetizers.
General admission will get you unlimited beer tastings throughout the festival.
There will be plenty of food on hand for an additional purchase. For anyone
going as a designated driver, there is a discounted admission pass available,
and you get all the soda, tea, or water you want, along with one complimentary
meal.
Whatever you decide to do this coming Labor Day
weekend, I hope you have a safe and fun time, and get out and celebrate summer
and the good life we have here in The Keys. If you’re on your way to sell or
