Come on out to Islamorada March 28th-29th and
celebrate all things wonderful about living in the Keys, and our island
lifestyle. The 24th Annual Florida Keys Island Fest will be at Founder’s
Park in Islamorada. This springtime celebration brings the best of our area
artists, musicians, and restaurants together in one family friendly event.
Island Fest will run from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with each day offering new and exciting
fun. You’ll be able to enjoy Island Fest all weekend long.
Throughout the festival there will
be the Arts and Crafts Show
featuring over 100 artists with a
variety of artistic endeavors, including paintings, jewelry, sculptures, and
more. The art is for sale, so perhaps this will be the weekend you find that
piece of art you simply can’t resist. There will also be live music going on with a variety of genres playing to entertain,
from blues to country and rock. The kids will have a great time painting a life
sized dolphin statue, building sand castles, and competing in hula hoop
contests. Returning for the fifth year to the Island Fest is the All-American Road Vintage Cruisers Car Show.
A new feature for Island Fest will
be the “What Floats Your Boat?”- a homemade
boat race to be held on Saturday. Participants must create their own boat to
enter the race. There will be awards for several categories such as the Anchor
Award, Krazy Krewe Award, Sink & Swim Award, Thriftiest Award, and
Yachtiest Award. The big winner of the race will take home the coveted Lucky Ducky Admiral Award. This is
bound to become a favorite new addition to the festival. Another Saturday
contest will be just for the kids, where they can compete to create the word
ISLAND from colorful sand on the beach.
Sunday will bring another annual
favorite to the Island Fest, the Taste
of Islamorada, a competition of local culinary delights from area
restaurants. You can savor the best of Florida Keys foods and flavors all day
long. There will be food offerings throughout the weekend, of course, and word
is, the ever-popular Islamarauder Rum
Punch stand will be there again this year. Admission is free for Island Fest, with a $5.00 parking donation to
park at the fest. Be sure to bring lawn chairs and blankets, and plan for a
weekend full of fun for the entire family.
