Entertainment
in the Keys is getting off to a great start for 2015 with the 2nd
Annual Florida Keys Celtic Festival. This
incredible music fest is a weekend full of Celtic music, entertainment, games,
and family fun for the whole weekend. The festival runs from Friday, January 9 through Saturday, January
10th in Marathon. The festival will take place at Marathon Community Park from 3:00 pm to
10:00 pm Friday and 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Saturday. A special preview show,
“Kilts in the Keys” will be held on Thursday, January 8th at the
Marathon Grill and Ale House. The night will include Irish music performed by
members of the band, West of Galway.
The
other bands set to perform throughout the festival include Scottish bands Albannach, Rathkeltair, and The Screaming
Orphans, each playing multiple sets on stage. The Celtic Festival goes
beyond music, however. Traditional Highland games will be highlighted with a
sanctioned
Highland Women’s competition
and a men’s Highland games demonstration on Saturday. There will be plenty
of Celtic food, beer, and shopping available with over 15 vendors. There will
be fun activities for the kids in the Children’s Glen, making this truly a
family friendly event.
Other
highlights of the Celtic Festival will include the bagpipes and drums of St. Andrew’s Pipe Band of Miami and the
one and only Official Florida State Haggis
Hurling Championship, a contest open to all who wish to register. You can
purchase a one day ticket, $12 per person for Friday and $17 per person for
Saturday, or get a discounted price for both days at $22 per person. Kids 12 and younger are free to enter,
and parking is also free. As one of the best Celtic Festivals around, bringing
in some of the best known Celtic musicians and bands, this is not to be missed.
