Marathon Community Park will play host to the 21
st annual
Pigeon Key Arts Festival this coming
February 7-8th. Each
year, this arts festival, one of the largest in the area, is put on to help
raise funds for the preservation and education of the cultural icon, Pigeon
Key. This tiny island, situated below the old seven-mile bridge, was home to
the workers who built the over-sea railroad in the early 1900s.
The art
festival proceeds will go to the Pigeon Key Foundation, a non-profit
organization which brings not only education about Pigeon Key to the public,
but is a valuable resource for all things of cultural, environmental and
historical significance within the Keys in general.
The Pigeon Key Arts Festival is more than just a chance to view art. You
can get into the art, literally. Highly acclaimed Marine
artist Wyland will even be on hand, creating ink paintings to be auctioned
as part of the fundraiser. Over 50 pieces of art will be available to win for
the raffle that is a tradition of the festival. Get your ticket by 2:00 pm
Sunday for a chance to win a unique work of art.

Visitors will be able to see local and
nationally acclaimed artists work their magic throughout the day. From painting
to glass work, photography and pottery, sculpture, jewelry and more, you will
be surrounded by art and techniques of all kinds.
As this is a family friendly weekend-long event, there will be plenty of
food and drink to choose from as well as plenty of music. There will also be kids’
crafts on hand for the young ones. Admission is $7.00 for adults, children
under 12 are free and the festival runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. Parking
is free at the Marathon Community Park. As an extra bonus, you can even
take your Pigeon Key Art Festival ticket to the key over the next week after
the show and get a half-price ferry ticket to the key itself. Make a day
or a weekend of it, and come find some new art for yourself or as a gift. This
is one weekend event you won’t want to miss.
