The
Monroe County Commission meeting held this month included some exciting news
for both residents and visitors alike. The
county unveiled its own mobile app, which is being provided free of charge
through Apple and Google for smart phone and tablet users. The app has been set
up to bring Monroe County forward in the technical age where more and more
people are seeking information on the go with their mobile devices. The app was
developed with both local residents and visitors to the Keys in mind, providing
up to date information such as newsflashes,
calendar listings, meeting agendas
and notes, and access to a list of all county
beaches and parks.
You
can now be in the know faster than ever when it comes to weather advisories,
local events, and upcoming developments and changes within Monroe County. The
app also allows for comments to be
posted, giving the county the ability to respond quickly to concerns and
ideas posted by the community at large. The app is also linked to the county’s
Tourist Development Council website, fla-keys.com, which provides
event and travel information about the Keys. Perhaps the most important feature
within the app is a link to the state’s emergency managementwebsite,
which provides up-to-date information on hurricanes and tropical storms as they
become apparent. Residents and visitors
alike will be able to know quickly what actions need to taken to remain safe
within a storm.
New
features are expected to be added over time, including a live feed link to
watch Monroe County Commission meetings and other county events or meetings. You
will soon be able to apply for county jobs via the app as well. The county is
seeking ways to improve their public services to everyone in the Keys, and this
new app is expected to be a great success in doing so. You can access more
information on the app, including how to download it to your mobile device, at
the Monroe County website. If you are ready to get mobile and move to
