The
18th annual Lobsterfest
is set to take place Thursday August 7th
through Sunday August 10th. This event starts off the spiny
lobster season with all sorts of fun and food in one big weekend. From the
area’s best, fresh cooked lobster, to free music, a street fair and even a pub
crawl, Key West will soon be taken over by lobsters and lobster lovers alike.
But the festival is not just about lobsters, it is also a benefit to raise
scholarship funds for Key West High School students, so it is a great way to
help our community, enjoy some fun and eat really well.
The
fun begins on Thursday August 7th with a Lobster Boil held at the Tiki Bar & Grille on Front Street. In
addition to lobster, the feast includes andouille sausage, crawfish, corn on
the cob, potatoes and shrimp. There will be live entertainment and drink
specials offered as well. The Lobster Boil is so popular that reservations are
required, which you can submit through the main Lobsterfest website at their Schedule ofEvents page.
Friday
August 8th will feature the Duval
Street Crawl with more than a dozen area bars including Sunset Tiki
Bar, Hard Rock Cafe, Agave, Bagatelle, Amigos, Tattoos & Scars, Lazy
Gecko, Rick's, Durty Harry's, Smokin Tuna Saloon, Coyote Ugly, The
Grand Cafe, Willie T's, Pinchers Crab Shack and McConnell's Irish Pub. You must
be 21 and older to join the pub crawl and advance tickets are available through
the Lobsterfest website. For those that go on the crawl you get your
own Lobsterfest 2014 t-shirt and souvenir bottle opener/ lanyard as well as
drink specials throughout the evening, beginning at sunset and going on till
midnight.
The
Lobsterfest highlight no doubt takes place on Saturday August 9th,
with the Lobsterfest Street Fair,
located along Duval Street from Noon to 11:00 pm. There will be sample offerings
of all kinds of lobster dishes from local leading chefs, cooked from freshly
caught lobsters of course. There will be
fun for the whole family with live music starting at 1:00 pm and continuing
until 10:30 pm, at the intersection of Duval and Greene streets. The other main
attractions of the street fair are all the vendors you can shop. There will be
arts and crafts offerings galore just waiting for you to find.
