The
annual Songwriter’s Festival will be held on Thursday May 7th through Sunday May 11th. This
is your chance to enjoy performances from more than 180 contemporary songwriters within more than 50 shows. The festival gives the writers of recent and current hits
to perform their own work, regardless of whose voice is heard on the airwaves.
The shows will be performed at several locations within Key West.
Many
of the shows are set up with rotating groupings of writers and performers, and
are free of charge. The hub of the
festival will be at the Smokin’ Tuna
Saloon at 4 Charles St. Performances will be held are various bars,
restaurants, and resort beaches, including Ocean Key Resort’s Sunset Pier. Other
venues include Studios of Key West, The San Carlos Institute and the Tropic
Cinema movie house. The variety of venues will bring a festive, entertainment
air to the whole of Key West, for all of the family to enjoy.
The
festival will be kicked off on May 7th with an outdoor concert
starring Anderson Osborne, known for
his guitar playing and soulful voice. One anticipated highlight of the
Songwriters Festival will be a free
concert on May 10th at the 200 block of Duval Street with Sarah Evans, country singer/songwriter whose latest release is “Slow Me Down”. The family friendly show is free of charge. Some other performers slated to play at the festival include crossover country-pop singer/songwriter Rebecca Lynn Howard,
Texas-based songwriter/entertainer Robert
Earl Keen, BMI Icon Award winner Dean
Dillon and recent Grammy Award winner Kacey
Musgraves.
The
annual Key West Songwriter’s Festival is presented
by the international performing rights organization, BMI, and benefits the
Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative, which is a rehabilitation program
