The 5th
Annual Key West Bacchanalia is set for June 13th- 15th and promises to be a
food lover’s paradise. Top chefs from the area as well as chef celebrities will
be bringing their prize winning cooking styles to our shores, showcasing both
traditional and contemporary cuisine. There are several events planned for this
yearly food festival, with a wide variety of food and drink lovers alike. The
Key West Bacchanalia is not only about the joy of cooking and eating great food.
It is a benefit for the Darrel Gwynn
Foundation, which supports and provides awareness and prevention education
for paralysis, all the while also seeking a cure.
Chefs of the highest caliber are what sets the Bacchanalia
apart from other food festivals. This year’s lineup will be another great line
up. One of our best area chefs, Maria
Manso of Pier House Resort & Spa, will be there, along with another
local chef, Norman Van Aken, who won
the nationally renowned James Beard Foundation award, and Howie Kleinberg, former contestant from television’s “Top Chef”
reality show. Throughout the festival, you will be surrounded by chefs
practicing their art for your entertainment and food tasting enjoyment.
The first night (Friday) will include Key West inspired tapas prepared by
Chef Van Aken and Chef Manso. The chefs will be on hand to cook before their
audience and share their personal cooking experiences. After tapas, Chef Van Aken
won’t be finished for the night. As the author of several highly rated books
such as “No Experience Necessary” and “My Key West Kitchen”, Van Aken will be
holding a book signing. Cocktails and
wine imported from Australia will be available as well. At $25.00 a ticket,
this evening is priced so all can attend.
Saturday’s feature is all about burgers and
cocktails, inspiring a spectacular cook off with local chefs
pitted against “Top
Chef” contender Kleinberg. The competition is to create the world best burger, as determined by attendees at the
contest. There is also the Rums of Puerto Rico grand tasting village to enjoy. Sunday
will round out the Bacchanalia barbecue
& rum bash for bulldogs and their humans. “The Bulldog” Kleinberg and
crew will serve is Angus beef barbecue, while offering insights and cooking
tips.
The Key West Bacchanalia
will be a food fest weekend of fun. There are parties and seminars yet to be
announced, but you can be assured there will be a lot of great food, drink and entertainment available to benefit a great cause.
