Key
West artists have a potential benefactor coming to the area February 24th.
The Knight
Foundation, a national art
foundation is prepared to award $2 billion in grants for creative art projects
during its national,
annual innovative art project search. By using art to showcase
the unique art culture of an area, the Knight Foundation is helping all
communities benefit from exposure to art.
This
year, The Knight Foundation is specifically coming to Southern Florida to host an event providing artists with
information about the program, in hopes of recruiting some potential winners. This
is the first time The Knight Foundation will come specifically to the Florida
Keys, expanding its artist recruit tour for the annual challenge.
The
event, to take place at the Marathon
Government Center, will provide information about how to apply, the
guidelines to follow for project submissions and even the chance to speak with some past winners. The
annual art project challenge began in 2008 and since then, over 7,500 artists
from the South Florida area have applied. The Knight Foundation is aware that
there are many artists in our area who are ready for more recognition, and they
want to continue their strong support of Southern Florida art culture by
seeking those artists out.
The
challenge is open to all artists, whether you are a hobbyist or professional
artist, part of a business or non-profit, a group of artists, or an individual.
All artistic endeavors are being sought
after from painting and sculpture to music, dance or theater; the only limits to
the art project ideas are the imaginations of our artists themselves. So, if
you are up to the challenge and have a unique idea about Key West art, clean
off your brushes or polish your dance shoes, and be sure to join in the Knight Foundation Art Project recruit event
on February 24th.
