Whether you are a foodie or just enjoy good food, the Key
Largo Food and Wine Festival is for you! Being held this year on Saturday,
January 18, 2014 from 11 am to 8 pm and on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 11 am
to 5 pm. The location is Bayview Park, at the corner of Truman Avenue and Jose
Marti Drive in Key West.
Admission is free but parking is not. You can park for $5 per car at Horace O’Bryant Middle School in the parking lot. The address is 1105 Leon St, next to Bayview Park. You will also want to bring extra money to pay for the tempting food being offered.
For entertainment, live music will start Saturday at 11 am and will include local favorites such as Rusty Lemmon, The Regs and the Doerfels. The music will continue to play for the duration of the festival day. There will be a children’s area set up. The “Kid’s Fun Zone” will offer a bounce house, giant slide, rock climbing and many other activities.
On the menu the festival is hosting a wide range of food. You know it would not be a food event in Key West without conch fritters, conch ceviche and conch chowder, so expect to see those items prominently featured. You will also find peel ‘n eat Key West pink shrimp, stone crab claws, smoked fish dip, lobster bisque and grilled spiny lobster. If you find that you are not in a seafood mood, hot dogs and hamburgers will also be available. For drinks you can chose from a selection of sodas, beer, wine and water. If dessert is always on your menu, you will love Estella’s Famous Flan, Key Lime tarts and even soft serve ice cream.
If you have the time, check out the Florida Keys Commercial
Fisherman’s Association cookbook being offered for sale. All proceeds go
towards their scholarship fund for Florida Keys students. Remember that local
festivals such as this one are offered and run by our Key West friends and
neighbors. When you buy from them, you are supporting our local economy and
helping us build our community. If you are in Key West as a tourist, these
