Duval Street Earns New Award

Key West has been noted for many different awards related to the city. From top resorts to top beaches, there is a reason Key West is an amazing travel destination. This year, Fodor’s Travel’s has added a new designation to the area with the southernmost point.

Duval Street has been named to Fodor’s Travel’s list of its top 15 main streets in the United States. This main tourist drag is popular for many reasons. A famous downtown commercial zone that runs north and south from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, the entire street is just over a mile long. It was originally named for William Pope Duval, the first governor of Florida.
Near the southern end of Duval Street is the buoy that marks the southernmost spot in the United States. At the north end, tourists from cruise ships start their browsing in Mallory Square, which is at the center of Key West’s waterfront.

Duval Street has been a central thoroughfare for the City of Key West since the beginning. It has retained its feature as a main street in the city and is well-known for popular restaurants and bars. You can almost always find costumed locals singing and dancing in the street until the early hours of the morning. Also, not to be taken lightly is the “Duval Pub Crawl”, which is a tour of the most popular local bars. In Duval Street, people watching is nearly as interesting as the food you find.

Other main streets named to this list include streets in Richmond, IN; Paducah, KY; Littleton, NH; Denton, TX and Galen, IL.
