Believe it or not, it is back-to-school time around the country. If you live in
Key West Florida, Monday, August 20
th is the first day of school. It seems like only yesterday we let the children out for the summer. No matter what time of year though, one thing is certain: the learning never really ends in Key West.
You can learn to sail, kiteboard, dive, snorkel, and even learn about
butterflies. Aside from outdoor learning, we have culinary schools and other educational facilities. There are schools for every facet of life, from Head Start to college education.
Public and private schools on the island are numerous. We have four elementary schools, a middle school, and our crowning achievement, Key West High School. All the schools are conveniently located within a short bus ride of most neighborhoods. Children will be able to make friends and grow with them through all of their learning years.
Then when a child is ready to further his or her education, they can move up to
Florida Keys Community College, where the learning can be for a trade or even a bachelor’s or master’s degree. The college also has adult learning classes for those of us who may have been away from school for a year or two, but would like to learn something new.
As I mentioned earlier, learning never really ends in Key West; it just takes on new dimensions. But don’t forget classes, even at Florida Community College, start on August 20th. So make sure everyone has their backpacks and school supplies. Also, be mindful of the school zones as you travel through Key West neighborhoods.
Whether you’re a tourist, looking to move permanently to the Keys, or just someone who likes the beauty of nature, the great variety of amenities in the homes and schools in our area are just more reasons to want to live in beautiful Key West.
