The New Year tradition seems to be to go out on the town on New Year’s Eve, party hearty till dawn and then suffer through New Year’s Day. I think it might be interesting to change that tradition. There is no better place in the world than Key West and the Lower Keys to do something like this!
How about taking it a little easy in the New Year’s Eve celebration department and saving your energy to start the New Year with fun and adventure instead of a headache?
There are so many activities available in our area! Many of them are available nowhere else in the world. Even activities that you can find in other areas have a way of being presented with a distinctly Key West twist! A good place to start your search for fun in the New Year’s sun is the Key West Visitor’s Guide. There are enough activities here to keep you busy for a month or more! I just wanted to point out a few that caught my eye and piqued my curiosity. I just may try them out myself!
In their Key West Back Country Tours section they have two offerings that caught my eye. If you’re into being in the water (and who isn’t?!) there is a Sail, Snorkel and Kayak Adventure that looks like it would be great fun for anyone! You get to visit the Back Country Mangrove Islands, immerse yourself in nature and generally have a relaxing day.
A little more into adrenalin rushes? How about taking the Key West Shark Adventure?! No snorkeling here! The knowledgeable eco-guides will lure the sharks in to the immediate area by “chumming” (distributing stuff that stinks to us but that sharks love) in the waters of the salt marshes that surround the island. The pristine clarity of our local waters will enable you to see these apex predators like nowhere else. Bring your camera and be prepared to be wowed. Along the way you will be able to see many more of the birds, animals and sea life that inhabit our local area.
Whether you’re a tourist, looking to move permanently to the Keys, or just someone who likes the beauty of nature, the great variety of amenities in the homes in our area are just more reasons to want to live in beautiful Key West.
