Key West has many wonderful choices to celebrate America's independence! I think we often get so caught up in the picnic plans, family gatherings, and fireworks that we forget what we are celebrating. Let us never take our freedom and independence for granted.
On this special holiday - the Fourth of July - we pay tribute to all who gained and maintain this freedom for us. On our island we have great selections of music, festivals, and children’s activities and of course fireworks during the holiday weekend. I've gathered together a list of some local celebrations that I hope will help in your holiday weekend planning:
Annual Hospice/Visiting Nurses Association Picnic - Monday, July 4
Casa Marina Resort, 1500 Reynolds Street
Picnic and activities begin at 5:00 p.m.
Celebration complete with picnic buffet, live music, silent auction, and children's games.
Fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m.
Buffet tickets are $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for children ages 3-12. General admission for fireworks only (includes watermelon, popcorn, and cold drinks) are $10.00. Call 305-294-8812 for more information.
Big Pine & Lower Keys Rotary Club Fireworks - Monday, July 4
Sugarloaf Airport, MM 17 bayside, next to the quirky Bat Tower
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. for live music, food, cold beverages, games and activities for kids and adults.
Fireworks (said to be longer and larger this year) begin around 9:00 p.m.

Fireworks at 9:00 p.m.
Uncle Sam's Beach Bash & Bar B Que - Monday, July 4
Key West Harbour Marina, 6000 Peninsular Ave.
11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
All you can eat Bar B Que and Pig Roast with give-a-ways and prizes. Free beach & pool access. Arrive by motor vehicle or boat. Live music.

Run Like A Conch - Monday, July 4
White Street Pier
7:30 a.m. (check-in from 6:30 a.m. to 7:20 a.m.)
Morning race along the beaches of Key West. The race will benefit the Key West High School Cross Country Team. Special awards to most patriotic race outfit. Awards in categories including overall, masters, military M & F, age groups. Runners and race walkers.
$20.00 pre-entry and $25.00 on race day. Age 18 and under: $10.00 pre-entry and $15.00 on race day.
Harbourwalk Bar Stroll - Monday, July 4
Begins at Dante's and ends at Sunset Pier, Ocean Key Resort at Zero Duval Street.
2:00 p.m. -
$25.00 fee includes collector tee-shirt, and a taste ticket for all nine stops along the route. First 40 active military get in free. For more information call Rick Dostal at 305-766-0239.
